Every great adventure begins with a spark—mine started with a passport, a passion for travel, and a dream to transform my community.

As a travel agent, I discovered the world not just through destinations, but through experiences. My love affair with candle-making began in Miami, where a single workshop revealed something profound: creativity has the power to connect people in ways we never imagine.

From Travel Inspiration to Community Transformation

Each city I visited became a classroom. Wherever I went, I sought out local candle-making studios, turning this into a personal tradition that would ultimately change my life. What started as a personal joy became a mission to bring that same magic back to Waldorf, Maryland.

The turning point came during an underwhelming workshop with a friend. A 40-mile drive, minimal guidance, and a three-hour wait for our candles—this experience wasn't just disappointing. It was an invitation. An invitation to create something better, something meaningful.

Building More Than a Business

In November 2022, Blk & Lit Candle Bar was born. By May 2023, our first workshops began, and by July, we opened a studio that could host eight participants. The community's response was overwhelming. Just a year later, we moved to a larger space accommodating 24 people—a testament to the hunger for creative, inclusive experiences.

But Blk & Lit is more than a candle studio. We're a movement.

A Sanctuary of Creativity and Empowerment

Our vision was radical in its simplicity: create a safe, welcoming space that offers more than traditional nightlife. We wanted to provide experiences for families, couples, and friends—a place where learning meets joy.

We've expanded beyond candle-making. Now, we offer workshops in perfume crafting, rose bouquet arranging, diffuser-making, and painting. Each session is an opportunity to learn, to connect, to grow.

Investing in Our Community's Future

Our commitment goes deeper. We've launched an entrepreneurial youth program and summer camp, teaching young people not just the art of candle-making, but the skills to create their own opportunities. We partner with local instructors, continually expanding our offerings and impact.

Let me be transparent—this journey hasn't been easy. I've funded this entire venture with my full-time job salary, building Blk & Lit from the ground up. Every challenge has been an opportunity, every obstacle a chance to innovate.
